This horizontal wood fence is built from cedar tongue-and-groove boards in 1x4 or 1x6 sizes, run with a half-inch gap between boards and capped with a 1x2 cedar top rail. High-grade cedar resists rot and insects on its own, which keeps the horizontal boards sound and holding their line outdoors. The double-sided semi-privacy construction gives the same finished face on both sides, with the half-inch spacing letting light and air through while still screening the view. That makes it a fit for residential yards or shared boundary lines where both neighbors need a fence that looks the same from their side.
